THESE ARE THE NEWS

It would be far from inaccurate to reject the notion that Americans don’t love their nightly news. But what goes on “behind the scenes?” That was the question asked by a relatively unsuccessful documentary filmmaker when he agreed to investigate the office workings of a nightly news show in order to finance his Leonard Nimoy biopic. So forms the premise of These Are the News, a mocumentary sitcom new on ICTV this spring. Created by Jesse Porter and Evan Engel of The Solarium with Professor Smedley Drake, and featuring actors you know from Fake Out, The Solarium and 30 Minutes, These Are the News is expected to compete heavily with Ya Think You Know Sports? for “Most Ungrammatical Show Title of 2005.”

These Are The News #2!
Posted by: Pete Berg on Sat Sep 03, 2005 9:10 am

The second episode of These Are The News was finished over the summer, and has been patiently waiting in the ICTV tape library, unwatched, for the past four months. But never fear! TATN Ep. 2 is finally available for you to watch! Just click the link under "Latest Episodes" to initiate viewing right now on the web!

Episode 2 is set to have its broadcast premiere on ICTV's first air night: September 11th. After that, it will get some heavy airplay in the "TBA" slots you see in the TV Schedule.

These Are The News Ep. 1 as well as all three episodes of The Solarium With Professor Smedley Drake (the other show by the TATN crew) will also be aired in the coming weeks.

With the premiere of our final episode, the These Are The News production cycle is officially over. It was a fun ride, and everyone involved is very proud of the great TV we made. I hope you enjoy it too!

"These Are the News" finally premieres
Posted by: Jesse Porter on Wed Apr 20, 2005 12:34 am

Either you guys have been infallibly polite or simply forgotten that we exist, but either way, prepared to be shocked and entertained this evening when "These Are the News" finally premieres at 10:30.

We could give you every excuse in the book as to why its taken us so long to premiere, but we'll only give you three or four: shortages of equipment on weekends which pushed back the production schedule, the distraction of finishing up the final episode of The Solarium, general incompetence on the part of your D.P. / ICTV web designer, and then also the fact that we were fortunate enough to have James Pritting and Stephanie Hricko in the cast meant that every other weekend we could expect at least one of the two of them to decide to scamper off on a weekend getaway or a field prod shoot or something.

But the wait is finally over, just in time for the ICTV season to be as well. If you happen to miss the premiere, both episodes 1 and 2 will be on the web and will also be aired on ICTV next semester.

Enjoy!

Jesse and Evan
